Our trip to the Pacific NW
Eric and I took a 10-day trip to Seattle and Portland for our 1-yr wedding anniversary. Here’s a little travelog of our adventure.
Oct. 4
Five-hour flight from ATL to SEA. Highlight of flight was passing Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens. Absolutely amazing. Got checked into the Hotel Max. Look how cute the rooms were:
Took a cab ride out to University Village to the Apple store so we could replace Eric’s fried laptop cable.
We grabbed a bite to eat at a brewery nearby. As we dined, I witnessed something truly typical of Seattle (according to our server). I noticed at one point, it was pouring rain outside the front of the restaurant…. but, only 20 feet away, outside the window next to our table, not a drop fell from the sky. Probably one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever witnessed. I imagined a cartoon character walking around out in front of the tavern, a lone rain cloud following him around the parking lot. :)
On the ride back to Hotel Max… we saw some beautiful houses and neighborhoods. Seattle is a pretty neat city.
Oct. 5
Checked out around 11′ish. Rented a car. Drove to Portland, Oregon. Got to our condo, met the owners and got the keys.
Walked across the pedestrian bridge in search of dinner. Found Old Town Pizza. Reaaaaallly good. Proof:
Eric was excited about the pizza, too.
After dinner, we walked around town a bit and came back to the condo and crashed.
Later that evening, the nice condo owners stopped by to wish us a “happy anniversary” and delivered a yummy piece of chocolate cake they picked up for us at Papa Haydn.
Oct. 6
We walked around the Pearl District most of the day, took lots of photos, and eventually ate a late lunch / early dinner at Henry’s 12th Street Tavern.
Came back to the condo. Took a walk on the riverfront. Watched a movie (The Number 23)… fell asleep during the middle of it.
Oct. 7
Woke up late, again. Met up with Ward, Andrea, Ava & Ezra in the Alberta area for lunch at Cup & Saucer Cafe. Good food and great company.
Drove back to the condo and went out that evening for a walk around downtown. It poured rain all afternoon, and we got soaked and cold walking around for several hours… but it was nice to be out walking around a new city, so we didn’t mind getting a little wet. Came back and watched a really awful movie called The Grudge.
Oct. 8
Drove out the Columbia River Scenic Highway. Saw Multnomah Falls. Drove out to Mt. Hood and Timberline Lodge. Drove through Goverment Camp. Came back to Portland for dinner. Ate at Jake’s Famous Crawfish. Had yummy crab cakes.
Oct. 9
Woke up way late. Had french toast at Fuller’s Coffee Shop around noon. Walked around town a bit. Came back to the condo and a nap sucked us in. Ended up going to the Pearl District for dinner. Ate at Hot Lips Pizza. That evening, we watched about a million episodes of Dirty Jobs, which has fast become our new favorite show.
Oct. 10
A cereal morning at the condo. Packed up and headed back to Seattle. Had the rental car until 6pm. Got into Seattle around 2pm, so we headed over to Lake Washington Blvd to check out Kurt Cobain’s old place. Ended up on the wrong end of Lake Washington and witnessed a random cyclist wipe out on a curve not 20 feet in front of our parked car. Got out to assist him… he left a large chunk of his upper thigh on the highway. Bad abrasions. Poor dude.
Finally made it over to Kurt’s house and took some pics of the signed bench in the park next door. Found some amazing parks along his street, and went down to the water to take some shots of the scenery and skyline.
Returned our rental car. Checked back into the Hotel Max. Went out for dinner… didn’t venture out very far and grabbed some Italian food down a few blocks. We were wiped out.
Oct. 11
Pike Place market. Space Needle. Donuts. And something resembling Mexican food?
Oct. 12
Slept in. Took a bus to funky Fremont to search for a troll under a bridge. Got really lost in the process. And a little scared. Rode back to our hotel and walked to a pizza place not worth mentioning located near Seattle Center. In case you didn’t notice, we consume a lot of pizza.
This day was pretty much a total wash. Ready to head back home.
Oct. 13
Flight back to ATL.
