Christmas 2010

yep, it’s almost april… and look at what i’m doing here. posting holiday photos. well, i meant to do it months ago, obviously. don’t judge me. just indulge me in my procrastination for a moment.

the first few photos were taken around the house in our new alameda home shortly before the week of christmas. our tree that sorely needs a skirt, sugar cookies (hello, can’t leave out the sweets), and various other decorations: some ornaments my mom made, a hand painted santa a family member made years ago, and a ceramic santa bank that my grandmother brought to the hospital when i was born.

these remaining photos are from our trip to georgia to visit family.

Help-Portrait San Francisco 2010

on saturday, eric and i jumped in at the last minute to assist with the help-portrait event in san francisco.

originally, we had not signed up to volunteer because thought we’d either be in the midst of our latest move or would still be dealing with unpacking and getting settled.  we were both pretty bummed that we would miss out on such a great opportunity to serve, so… on friday, i reached out to the sf bay area coordinator, joey chandler, and asked if their group needed any last minute help.  he graciously welcomed us to join in, so we showed up on saturday morning, ready to get to work!

Why Work Doesn’t Happen at Work

love this from jason fried about work productivity.

highlights from the vid:

people don’t do work in the office….  people are trading in their work day for work moments.

people really need long stretches of uninterrupted time to get something done.  you cannot ask somebody to be creative in 15 minutes and really think about a problem.

how can we possibly expect people to do their job, if they are going to the office to be interrupted?

the real problems are the m&m’s — the managers & the meetings.

could not agree more.  i’m not a fan of being interrupted when i’m working, and i think meetings are an absolute waste of time.

10 Things to Love About Alameda, California

Sunset over the Bay

about a month ago, eric and i moved across the bay to alameda.  so far, we absolutely love it here.  i mean, how could you not?

  1. we are an easy 3-block walk to the beach
  2. no fog in sight… at least, not in the last month!
  3. the beautifully restored, historic art deco alameda theatre
  4. monthly flea market with antiques galore
  5. uss hornet museum & the former nas alameda
  6. walking distance to plenty of shops, restaurants, markets and parks
  7. lovely views of the bay and san francisco cityscape along shoreline drive
  8. island-wide speed limit of 25 mph makes for safe walking and biking
  9. abundant bike paths & no crazy hills
  10. classic cars are everywhere as well as over 3,000 victorian-era homes

all of this equates to plenty of future photo strolls to be had by me and e.  :)
